I never mentioned here that Delna's book of poems, titled Mazhavillum Kilikalum (Rainbow and Birds) was published by Olive Publications, Kozhikkode. So mentioning.

Book release was on August 2nd. It was organized by her small village primary school, and I'm told that it was quite an event there. (I was away in Zanskar those days.) I'm also told that she's appearing in television on Thursday evening. In Manorama news channel, which is not available around here. (Damn!) (And this is not even the first time for her to show up in television and newspapers. Hmm.)

And now I have to deal with the fact that the nine year old clinging to my fingers while walking around Sulthan Bathery is a poet, one with a book to her credit at that. A largely unaffected one. Incredible.

Reading.

From Indiatogether.org:
  • Compassion at the top: P Sainath remembers K R Narayanan, "one of India's finest diplomats and its best President ever." Also read Narayanan's Republic Day speech of 2000. Sainath says -
Four years after he made that brilliant speech, Indian voters showed they were much closer to his way of thinking. They dumped one of the worst governments this country had ever suffered.
  • Ecology for the people: Ramachandra Guha on inclusive approaches in wildlife conservation.
Also had a small haul at the DC Books stall in Bangalore Book Festival. What they have here is so little compared to what they'd have in the shop back home, but oh well. Feels soooo good and happy when spending on Malayalam books :)

Pensive at Pulang

(Updated) The Maami gets a box of chocolates for this:
Clutched between two paws
and a slightly wet nose
You come to me, in silence

And in your silence I find
the music of hills. And even
while I break
the moment with the snap
of my lens. The quiet remains,
all giving.
One of the pictures from Pulang, Himachal Pradesh. He is the most pensive and quietest dog I have ever met. Look at the way he ruminates, looking over the blue hills. I wish I could write a poem about him.

Sajan sent me the curses and bribed Murphy. Dude threatened me on Friday evening to respond to his book meme, but I had to rush to catch the 5:15 PM train. But a peek outside at 3:38 and I was shocked - it was raining cats and dogs, no way I can get out in a weather like that. Such a beautiful rain when you've to go someplace. How unfair.

rains, Rory is right, and book meme. )
