In Madurai,
city of temples and poets,
who sang of cities and temples

Here's a poem, A River, by A K Ramanujan.

Here're a bunch of pictures, by, err, me. There should have been more, given that this is Madurai and Madurai is the kind of place that is full of people and things and sights that a camera can devour. But I have grown lazy to carry a camera all the time, and grown shy to poke that thing on people's noses. So it happens that insentients get most attention, willing sentients get some attention, unwilling ones not so much. As it happened in the final edit, the more interesting pictures are that of sentients.

What a conundrum.

Good photographs. Hope you enjoyed your stay at Madurai. That's my home town and my ancestral house is in South Masi Street, 2nd parallel road from the South Gopuram.
Madurai is multi-faceted village town, its people are the most interesting ones apart from the architecture that one would notice.

Thank you Senthil. I remember your hometown. :)

Agree that Madurai is a very interesting place in terms of all these things. There will be a next time for me when I should have more time and willingness to explore everything in detail.

That said the whole country is made of a great deal of heartwarming people. You get to meet a fair share of crooks too, but the good people more than make up for the bad.
