guru dozing.

So we spent three days in Srinagar. On the first day, we found two houseboats to stay, and in the evening, went around the market place in the Dal lake. On the second day, shikaras took us to the Mughul garden of Shalimar and Hazarat Bal shrine. On the third day, we had to vacate and find a hotel closer to the outskirts of the town. The whole place was to be under curfew to facilitate security arrangements for a presidential visit, and we had to start for Kargil the next morning. Some of us chose to while away in the hotel room and market places, the rest chose to visit Shankaracharya temple.

Have you heard of Dr Rajesh Parikh's exhibition of photographs from Kashmir, named Hameen Ast? When it came to town in January, [livejournal.com profile] maxaud chettan and [livejournal.com profile] sumz chechi and yours truly showed up, promptly fell in love with the pictures, and sighed deeply. We wanted to go there someday. It happened sooner than I thought it would, but I had to go without them.

The good doctor took his pictures over a good twenty-five years. That is a little less than my age! (Those in the exhibition were taken over the last two years, however.) I obviously can't claim to have done anything remotely close to that, after spending a mere three days in Srinagar. But I like some of these. Poor quality scans notwithstanding. Apologies for that.
