Haiku.

Master Basho says:
No one travels
Along this way but I,
This autumn evening.

Kunjunni Mash says:
നീണ്ട വഴി
മഴക്കാല മൂവന്തി
ഞാനേകന്‍.

Which translates (quite poorly) to: A long way / Rainy day evening / I'm alone.

The Mullah recently quoted Master Basho ("Oh! the stillness - / The voices of the cicadas / Penetrating the rock; / Oh! the stillness!" and "The old pond - / A frog jumps in; / The water sounds - / The old pond!"), which re-sparked a haiku intrigue. On further interrogation, he also mentioned The Buddha Eye: An Anthology of the Kyoto School and it's Contemporaries.

I think I want to read that, but I also think I'm not quite ready for it yet.

The IETF SIP crowd's idea of All Fool's Day fun was really really really cute.

SIP version 2.0, originally defined in RFC 2543 and updated by RFC
3261 [RFC3261], has become quite popular among the "in" crowd. It
has, however, not been used in a way that people think it should
be used, and has several problems caused by the growth in
complexity of the protocol, ambiguity in usage, lack of security,
and need for backwards compatibility. This draft makes no serious
attempt to fix any of that. Instead, this draft is aimed at
creating a new version of SIP, so that manufacturers can sell new
equipment and software, to help the global economy. This in turn
will increase tax revenue for governments, which eventually may
lead to increased funds for feeding children. Therefore the
ultimate goal of this draft is to feed starving children.

The draft is exactly 42 pages, for obvious reasons. It is laden with all sorts of insider jokes. Quite a riot nevertheless.

Two posts in [livejournal.com profile] debian: "over-current change on port" poetry and a followup to that.

See the responses to the initial post? That is one reason I'm absolutely in love with Debian. People are knowledgeable, civil and extremely helpful. (Of course this isn't such a blanket statement - take the current flamewar around dpkg in debian-devel list, for example. FWIW, I'm just watching stuff more closely. I really don't know what I'm upto. Whatever it takes to keep the Inner NerdTM happy, I guess.)

Debian bug #465102 is now closed. It has not made into testing yet, therefore I have not tried it out myself.

Today I filed bug #471119 against anyremote Debian package. Anyremote is really cool stuff - I can carry a cellphone around the house and remote control rhythmbox and such over bluetooth. Very nice.

raghu dixit project avial

Been listening to Raghu Dixit Project and Avial albums like, nonstop, for the last two days. Albums are available from musicyogi.com, which itself is commendable, I think. The site has trouble with anything other than Internet Explorer, and their payment gateways are grievous; but the people are responsive, know their problems (here be a proof), and delivery was fast. In the end I could buy using konqueror.

May there be a springtime of excellent new generation Indian music. And movies, and literature, and fine arts... while we are at it. I'm in need of excuses for never ever leaving the country. :-)

(Avial's and Raghu Dixit's websites use copious amounts of flash, which also made me try out gnash. Most things did not work, but I am a wee small percent closer to being a Saint in the Church of Emacs! If the wireless driver binary blob could be excused, I'm already there. Which is dandy.)

Lenin reading Pravda.

Well, so there was Miguel de Icaza's blog post last week, which had a link (not work safe) to the good ol' Pravda. Visiting Pravda's site tickled me no end. For example, there's Alicia Mayer wearing a lettuce bikini for a PETA campaign (link not work safe). (Dude, we vegetarians are hot! And compassionate!) And so on.

But a question to the protesting Brazilian dudette: do you really think I would ever want to leave your country if you protest like that? Even if I am George W. Bush?

Speaking of pictures, Slate has a pictures of the day feature, sourced from Magnum, which brings you the sweetest and most amazing stuff, such as this. (Which also kind of proves the insignificance of your feeble attempts with camera. Attempt we shall nonetheless.) The fine folk of Slate seems to have forgotten to add a site feed for this feature. :-/ Will be greatful if anyone can find us an RSS/Atom feed.
